Mixing & Mastering Differences

If you are a member of the band has ever recorded, of course, often or never heard the word mastering. What is mastering?! What is the difference between mixing and mastering?

Mastering process is often called the people are actually more accurate to say the Pre Mastering. But in reality people are more likely to say it as Pre Mastering Mastering instead. Even this term naturally turn into Mastering.

Mastering is the final stage in the process of a musical. Mastering in simple language can be said as a polishing process music. Just as the dipolish let sleek furniture, you need to make your music to be sleek. Way to be sent to the mastering process.

What is the difference between the Mixing and Mastering? Mixing is the process of balancing multitracks. When we record songs, we will use a lot of tracks to record the musical instruments. In order for sound to be balanced so we do the mixing process. In contrast to the mixing, the mastering process you just use a stereo file. 1 stereo file consists of two tracks, namely the left and right. So the file is sent for final mixing and mastering is you, not the raw file multitracks or recordings.

What can you do in the mastering process? What can be done only in the mixing process? What to consider when mixing?

Balancing
Balancing is the process where you balance the multitracks. Balancing process can only be done in the mixing process. If there is any tightness or a track that is too small, then you need to fix it again mixing process.

Tuning
Wow my vocalist sound discordant, discordant guitar tuning. Can it be fixed in the mastering process? The answer is NO. Tuning process can only be done when mixing. Therefore, make sure all the notes that sound discordant been stripped down, tuned before being sent to the mastering session.

Less Sound Clean
Sometimes you feel you lack in sound mixing the sound is clean but the EQ and Filter. Net problem can be overcome in the process of mastering.

Sound Less Width
I'm not really a wide mix well, but already full panning ya? Do not worry we can help you to make it in the mastering process Wider.

Collide Each Other Frequencies
Sometimes you have up to 100 tracks or more recording time. There certainly would not want to collide with each other frequencies to each other. In the mastering process you can make these frequencies become more open and not collide with each other. Thus the sound of musical instruments more clearly heard.

Loudness Level
Is the sound mixing should be tight? The answer is NO. Many Mixing Engineer who want results fast mixing. It is a mindset that needs to be repaired. Mixing sound does not have to put a limiter especially high (L1, L2 or L3) in the master fader. By placing the limiter means you limit the mastering engineer. Try to make a nice mix sound without using a limiter. Let the hard issues are handled directly by the mastering engineer. When mixing, leaving headroom -12 dBFS with a fixed position on the master fader 0dBFS.

Peak
Often times you fun mixing. Without realizing it was the master fader peak (red). Many engineers think in practical mixing with the lower level or put the master fader to avoid the peak limiter. This is a less precise way. Master fader position should always be the number zero (0). When the peak occurs, the need to track down the individual level, not the master fader level. Do not get any peak in the individual track. Want a loud sound when mixing? Raise your level of monitoring ..

Sample Rate & Bit Resolution
Try to use the same sample rate from the process of recording, mixing to mastering. Tell mastering engineer sample rate you use. If your final destination is CD Audio, it is enough to use when recording 44.1 kHz sample rate and 24 bit. For Video you should use a 48 kHz sample rate and 24 bit.

Less is More - Simpler is Better
You can use the EQ, Compressor, Gate, Reverb, Delay, etc. for mixing. Use and control of these tools are good and right. Song files with best quality is pristine song files from the tape without having to go through many processes. Try to get a good recording. Avoid the principle of "WE CAN FIX IT During Mixing / Mastering". When mixing, try to create a natural sound, not to be too boomy or too crisp. "Good = Good Mixing Mastering".

Normalize
Do not Ever Do This - Not Even Think About It!!

Mastering is the final process and sensitive. Entrusting you to the process of mastering Mastering Professional Engineer who specializes in this field. When deciding to become a Sound Engineer, focus yourself to one area where you really become an expert in the field. Concurrently with each other professions that will make your work becomes less than the maximum because of the concentration and focus divided and persecuted time.

Background:
I am a fan of the song and the music player since my high school, and until now I still actively playing music in church, I am holding a musical instrument is Bass.
Over time, many songs that I made and I used to just use a tape recorder to record double-deck in my songs are. My first recording instrument in the guitar on cassette deck B, then after I play the tape in deck A, while recording the vocals on deck B, and so on. This complexity sometimes makes me lose my mood in a song. But luckily we can now do the Audio Recording on a computer with a track that as much as we want and can even be done in our bedroom.
Due to the development of increasingly sophisticated computers, then sometimes we would never miss to her up to date of the latest hardware or software, even if only as knowledge. For that I created this blog so that our fellow fans not to miss an Audio Recording No date on the latest hardware and software of Audio Recording by sharing our neighbors.
This blog may be useful to increase knowledge of peers.
